‘Love Island USA’ Heats Up With Season 6 As Streaming Viewership Doubles

EXCLUSIVE: It appears Peacock has a bombshell on its hands with the new season of Love Island USA.

Season 6 began attracting an unprecedented audience for the American version of the well-loved reality dating series after premiering on June 11. According to Nielsen, for the week of June 24 to 30, Love Island USA was the most-watched streaming reality series in the U.S.

During that interval, the series amassed 434M minutes viewed, coming in seventh among streaming originals for the week.

Nielsen streaming data is reported on a delay, which is why this data doesn’t include streaming in July. However, Love Island USA is releasing new episodes every day but Wednesday until July 21, giving it plenty of opportunity to continue building on this audience.

According to NBCUniversal, streaming for this season of Love Island USA has been doubled compared to previous seasons.

Love Island USA moved to Peacock beginning with Season 4, receiving a two-season order from the streamer after making the jump from CBS. While the first few seasons performed moderately for CBS and brought in a younger audience for the network, it was never able to replicate the success of its British counterpart on linear TV.

Even after the move to Peacock, Love Island USA seems to have performed quite modestly, though data on its performance has been hard to come by since streamers don’t generally self-report viewership.

It’s not entirely clear what is driving this newfound interest in Love Island USA, but a new host might have something to do with it. Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix took over hosting duties this season, undoubtedly attracting some of the Bravo-verse audience to the series as well.

Hosted by Madix and narrated by Iain Stirling, Love Island USA is shot in real time from Fiji. There are new episodes Thursday to Tuesday every week, available at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
