Splashes of 'vibrant colour' are poised to return to a Dorset town centre.

Dorchester Town Council has announced the return of the much-loved hanging baskets to the heritage lampposts on South Street.

It has been made possible through significant investment by the town council, with additional support from Dorchester BID, which helped cover the cost of the vibrant plants.

Dorchester Town Council Outdoor Services will be responsible for watering and maintaining the hanging baskets throughout the summer, ensuring the town centre remains a delightful sight for residents and visitors alike.

Cllr Robin Potter, mayor of Dorchester said, "The return of the hanging baskets to South Street brightens up the area by giving splashes of vibrant colour as people go about their business. This highlights the council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the beauty and charm of Dorchester.

"We are grateful to Dorchester BID for their financial support and to our Outdoor Services team for their hard work in watering and maintaining these lovely displays."

Dorchester's town centre is currently experiencing a period of growth and revitalisation. New shops and businesses are opening, contributing to the town's atmosphere.

As reported, new businesses have been setting up along Antelope Walk, with the owners, SLS Properties, offering competitive rents to attract local companies.

Loving By Nature, Joey's and Creative Image Studio are among local businesses that have been opened in the arcade.

A cat café called Tabby Terrace is also set to open soon, providing a unique and enjoyable experience for visitors.

Furthermore, planning is currently under consideration for a new Premier Inn on South Street.

If approved, this development will offer more accommodation options for visitors, further boosting the local economy and supporting the town centre.
