Lucas Bergvall believes he's being targeted on the pitch after sealing Tottenham transfer

Lucas Bergvall believes that he is getting more physical attention from players in Sweden as they look to see if he merits his move to Tottenham this summer from Djurgarden.

The highly-rated 18-year-old will arrive in north London this summer after Spurs and Djurgarden agreed a record deal for a Swedish teenager in February reportedly worth around £8.6million, along with a number of easily achievable add-ons and a sell-on clause. Bergvall chose Tottenham over a move to Barcelona and put pen to paper on a five-year deal which will be begin when he arrives in July to link up with Ange Postecoglou's squad.

The midfielder has excelled amid the attention of his impending move to the Premier League and has got four goals and four assists in his first eight matches in all competitions of the new Swedish season. Bergvall says he has noticed extra physical attention from opponents in the Allsvenskan in the early weeks of the campaign.

"Yes, it is clear that there has been more. Absolutely. People probably want to push me now that I've signed for Tottenham, but so it will be. It's just a matter of getting used to it. It will not be less in the future [in the Premier League]," the young midfielder is quoted as saying in Swedish media outlet fotbollskanalen.

"I'm young and there are many who like to push every now and then when a player has been sold for a lot of money."

Bergvall and Djurgarden are preparing for another physical match with a derby this Sunday against AIK and he agreed with his manager Thomas Lagerlof's words in his press conference that he hopes the officials protect the players.

"Yes, I absolutely believe it will be a tough match with many duels. You just have to see how it looked the last time, there were many who went on a rampage, including when Oskar Fallenius got an elbow in the face [causing him to leave the game after just 25 minutes]. The referee has a great responsibility to protect the players," he said.

"It is very important that the referees protect us players and that these ugly things should not just slide by, but that the referees should take that responsibility and if it is ugly enough, he should go. It does not matter if it is in the first minute or in the 90s. If it's ugly enough, he should go."
