Lucy Beaumont has opened up about the reality of her 'henpecking' disputes with her fellow Yorkshire comedian husband Jon Richardson after announcing their separation.

It comes following a joint statement released by the couple on Friday which shocked fans as they announced their decision to part ways after nine years together. The Instagram post read: "After 9 years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated. We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.

"As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment. Before their marriage, comedians Lucy and Jon had established their individual careers but were set up by fellow comedian Roisin Conaty in 2013.

They married in April 2015 and celebrated the birth of their daughter Elsie the following year. The pair have been entertaining audiences since 2020 with their mockumentary series Meet The Richardsons, where they play heightened versions of themselves, and have also featured together on Celebrity Gogglebox, reports the Mirror.

While Lucy may come across as less than kind to Jon, 41, on the comedy series, the 40 year old has admitted that her on-screen persona doesn't reflect her true nature. Speaking to The Sunday Post, she revealed: "It's been great, but I see comments on social media and people don't seem to realise it's not real."

"I don't henpeck we wouldn't have lasted this long if I was as mean to him in real life. You don't want to see a smug couple in love, in a nice house, with a stable career and a lovely little child. Who wants to see that? I wasn't doing it if we were going to be like that. We'll show the other side where we're just at each other constantly. It's a more truthful portrayal. The world we've got around us is slightly bizarre, but I think people still feel like they recognise themselves in it, which is good."

During an appearance on Channel 4's 'Eight Out Of Ten Cats Does Countdown' in 2022, Lucy took a sharp jab at her husband, hinting at what some might interpret as early signs of trouble in their marriage.

The studio audience erupted into laughter when Lucy and host Jimmy Carr made light-hearted jibes about her marriage to Jon. As Jimmy introduced Lucy as one of the contestants, he said: "Lucy and Jon are married. So I know Lucy, everyone watching at home is dying to know... What made you decide to settle? " To which Lucy responded with a cutting remark: "I don't see this for life."

Lucy continued, stating: "Isn't it a song - just passing through? Is it? You meet in your life old souls, new souls... A***holes." She then moved on to confidently proclaim that her and Jon "had a lovely life together" before cryptically adding: "Who knows what will happen in the future."
