Lucy Mecklenburgh responds after mocking Ryan Thomas' welcome home blunder

Lucy Mecklenburgh said she was only 'joking' after she mocked Ryan Thomas' efforts to welcome her home following a short working break. There were emotional scenes when the former The Only Way is Essex star said a sad goodbye to Ryan and their son Roman and fiancé Ryan Thomas.

She was waved off by her boys as she boarded a train to Essex before flying off to Portugal where she was hosting a retreat with her fitness and wellness brand RWL At the time, Lucy shared a video of Ryan holding onto the hand of a crying Roman, four, as he said goodbye.

Mum-of-two Lucy, who also shares daughter Lilah with Ryan, said: "I'm going to Essex then Portugal I hate being away from the kids." She also added the caption: "My heart” alongside a broken heart emoji. However, she later shared a snap from the airport as she confessed: “Flying without kids = Heaven!"

The TV star and businesswoman then headed to Faro where she met her pals for the fitness and wellbeing getaway in the sun. And after a few short days, Lucy was back on home soil by Tuesday evening (April 16) and it appears Ryan wanted to welcome her home with a nice homecooked meal.

However, it didn't quite got to plan. In a video shared to her Instagram Story, Lucy, 32, spoke to the camera and said: "Ryan..." but before she could get into it her actor fiance shouted: "Don't do this to me!" But Lucy continued: "Ryan was one hour late picking me up from Manchester Airport. A whole hour I stood there expecting to see my son running towards me. An hour I waited!"

She went on: "Then he got himself stuck in the wrong car park and couldn't get out and then he was like, 'I've cooked you a homecooked meal, Lucy!'" Ryan, 39, interjected: "I started very early this morning. Prepped it all, made sure it all looked nice so that when I picked you up from the airport it was all ready..."

"And also, it was Shephard's Pie which is probably my least favourite meal, which he knows. My mum used to cook it once a week and I used to go mad and say, 'Can you cook me spaghetti bolognese instead!'" She wrote alongside the clip: "Wait til you see it," alongside a string of crying laughing emojis.

Lucy then continued: "Anyway, this is the final result... This is the homecooked shepherd's pie he made me," she added as she panned to show what appeared to be the burnt meal in the glass tray. Alongside more crying laughing emojis, Lucy wrote: "Just a short 3 hour bake."

But she later shared another video as she relished the spring sunshine. Alongside it, she wrote: "I'm only winding him up! It's the thought that counts and all that [laughing emoji]." Changing the subject, she added: "This weather tho..." alongside a love heart eyes emoji.
