M&S to close Newton Mearns store for major makeover with new bakery and wine shop

An M&S store in East Renfrewshire is set to close ahead of an exciting makeover that will welcome a new bakery, wine shop and more for customers to enjoy.

The Newton Mearns supermarket will shut its doors on June 15 and will be closed until 'later in the summer'. During the closure, it will be transformed into a fresh-market-style food hall.

The makeover will create a new bakery, wine shop, flower shop, new click & collect facilities, and a cheese barge. The investment is part of M&S’ plan to invest £30 million in stores across Scotland.

During the closure, colleagues will temporarily join nearby stores, including at Silverburn Shopping Centre and Kingsgate Retail Park in East Kilbride.

Newton Mearns store manager, Ross Kitson said: "As someone who’s been at M&S since 2009, I’m so excited that Newton Mearns is getting a brand-new refresh.

"We were the first store in Scotland to become a Simply M&S so it is great we are now entering our next era to ensure we are always giving our customers the best shopping experience. A bigger and better foodhall means even more delicious products, from fresh fruit and vegetables grown by our Select Farmers to our Remarksable Value range and iconic Dine In.

"I can’t wait to see the response to the refresh from our regulars and welcome many new customers as well!"
