M&S shoppers 'very sad' after range axed across UK stores in shake-up

Marks and Spencer fans have been left gutted - after a furniture range was AXED in a major shake-up. M&S plans to ditch the vast majority of its own-brand furniture in the coming months, the Sun newspaper has reported this week (Monday April 22).

M&S will axe beds, sofas, wardrobes and garden furniture. Instead, it will work with third-party brands to sell these products on its website, but has no plans to sell furniture from other brands outside the existing partnerships like with Kettler and Royalcraft.

M&S will stop selling larger furniture items in the autumn, although an exact date is yet to be confirmed. Its made to order range - where shoppers can chose from different options such as fabric and size to create a bespoke piece - will end on July 31.

On Facebook, one shopper said: "End of May with a sale starting on 1st June according to salesman in Braehead, Glasgow. An occasional table I was looking for was a 13 week delivery." A second typed: "Oh dear, that is sad. All our dining furniture is from M&S , and our kitchen chairs.

"I wonder why that is. That will be less to look at in stores." Another wrote: "Very sad! All of my furniture is M&S! A bad decision in my opinion." Another typed: "Personally I like to see what I’m buying so always go to a large Next store now, their furniture is fantastic, great choice & quality.

"Shame about M&S though!" Another said: "3 years ago we bought a dinning room table, chairs and sideboard from M&S. In 48 years of marriage it was the only furniture bought from a store that arrived in perfect condition and we have shopped at numerous stores during our married life.

"If only they had their own furniture stores rather than online and the few items in store." An M&S spokesperson said: "While we have a fantastic range of home products, we want to bring even more newness and great value, stylish product to our customers’ homes.

"To do this, we will range fewer large, own-brand furniture products and expand our range of key pieces like accent chairs, side, and coffee tables; working with third party brands to complete our offer."
