M&S under fire over lunchtime move and shoppers rage 'you can shove it'

Marks and Spencer has come under fire over the price of a mayo sandwich - as fans say: "The country's finished". No Context Brits, a Twitter/X account, shared a snap from an M&S store showing a eggo mayo and watercress sarnie costing £6.

"What on Earth is posh in this sandwich ? Is it some rare bird’s egg? Or the watercress was planted on the Moon ?" asked a fan. "I've known for a while I need an eye test but I swear my eyes are telling me it is £6 for an egg sandwich," a second raged.

"I prefer a Reuben out Marks & Sparks," a third said. Another wrote: "I'm sorry but 6 quid for that?? You know exactly where you can shove it." Another fumed: "Doubling the price doesn’t make it posh, looks like a regular pre packed egg mayo."

"What made the egg posh? Was the chicken brought up around Chelsea?" asked another. "Why do they use mayonnaise in all takeaway sandwiches?! Ugh! Not all of us can eat it but the one alternative (Ham, no mayo) is like dried old socks," another said.

"I used to buy egg and cress sandwiches in the 70s/80s .. they were made with salad cream not mayo . Who remembers? .. and they certainly were not posh haha," another wrote. Another wrote: "M&S has figured out human nature. Put a shop near a train. Make it quick and tasty. AND everybody grabs two."

"£6 is daylight robbery! Some would argue this because of inflation, wars cost or importing good, manufacturing. Some would argue this is profiteering for the share holders. Which do you think it is?" asked another M&S shopper in reply.

Another said: "Just a random fact. The word POSH comes from the cruise ships. ‘Port Out, Starboard Home’ would mean that you get the view out to sea as opposed to dockside in and out of port."
