M5 crash sparks 50-minute delays and miles of traffic after serious incident

There are miles of tailbacks and delays of at least 50 minutes on the M5 this afternoon (Wednesday, May 8) following a crash. Two lanes of the M5 northbound between junction 24 and 23 at Bridgwater are closed as multiple emergency services are at the scene.

National Highways has warned motorists there is over three miles of congestion on approach to the area. Two lanes of the M5 are closed ahead of rush hours due to a crash.

Traffic cameras near Bridgwater show long tailbacks on the northbound carriageway.

National Highways posted to social media and said: “#M5 northbound between J24 and J23 near #Bridgwater. 2 lanes (of 3) are closed due to a collision.

“Emergency services, including an Ambulance are in attendance. Delays of 30 minutes, with 3.5 miles of congestion on the approach. Updates to follow soon.” National Highways later said there are delays of around 50 minutes in the area.
