M54 crash sees woman hospitalised after car hits barrier

A woman has been injured after a car crashed into a barrier on the M54 near Telford. A stretch of the eastbound carriageway was closed following the smash, as police advised motorists to 'avoid the area'.

Emergency services were called to the scene- between J4 and J3 - on Tuesday morning (April 23). Medics treated the woman for injuries, which were not believed to be serious, before taking her to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital for further treatment.

Drivers faced delays of around 30 minutes while the incident was cleared. The busy motorway has now reopened.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We were called around 7.10am this morning after a car collided with the barrier eastbound on the M54 near junction 3. The motorway was closed for a short time to enable the incident to be dealt with, it has now reopened.

"One woman has been taken to hospital, the extent of injuries is not yet known however they are not believed to be life-threatening." A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the M54, near to junction 4, at 7.10am.

"One ambulance attended. On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman, who was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to New Cross Hospital."
