'I made some horrific decisions' - Rebekah Vardy opens up about suicide attempt aged 14

Rebekah Vardy spoke out on last night’s I’m A Celebrity about how she once tried to take her own life aged just 14.

The 35-year-old admitted her suicide attempt was “pushed under the carpet” and as a result she went on to make some “horrific decisions in life”.

During a discussion about suicide, her I’m A Celeb campmate Iain Lee started saying how it is the “biggest killer of men between 17 and …”, and Rebekah said: “I tried it. This was when I was about 14.”

The radio show host said: “I’m sorry to hear that. It breaks my heart that as a 14-year-old you would consider doing something like that, but it’s really common. Did you get help?”

She replied: “Um, no, because when I was that age it was like something that was just pushed under the carpet. It’s had such a bad effect on me, I made some horrific decisions in my life.

“I got to a point after I had my second child that it just hit me. And it does because you can’t run from it forever and that’s what I was doing.

“I had really bad post-natal depression with my second. It’s like Pandora’s Box opens, and when that opens you have to deal with it … it was kind of a knock-on effect after that.”

Iain asked her about the treatment she’d had, and Rebekah admitted talking was one of the best helps she received.

She said: “CBT therapy, it changes your brain’s thought process. I had that, I had counselling, I was on anti-depressants for a while, and then all of a sudden things just start getting better.

“Because you learn to deal with things. You learn that you can’t just put them in your back pocket. You need to talk and talking is really good, and it helps you overcome so many things.”

On Monday night’s episode, Rebekah – who is married to England footballer Jamie Vardy – aired her frustrations at fellow campmate Shappi Khorsandi during the Race Against the Elements trial.

At one point, she fumed: “I’m actually going to kill her.”

This comes after her ex-husband Mark Godden revealed he has been voting for her to do as many Bushtucker Trials as possible because he want to see her “suffer” and “go through hell”.

He told the Daily Mirror: “I’m an avid fan and this year it’s even better because my ex is on it.

“While I don’t want to see her win, although she’d love to, I want her to go through hell. We are all voting for her to get to the trials because we want her to suffer. We all want her to scream a bit.”

On last night’s show, Iain managed to bag a meal for each of his I’m A Celeb campmates after he won all 11 stars in his Space Your Fears trial.
