Madonna calls her recovery 'a f---ing miracle' after June hospitalization

Madonna is still recovering from her June hospitalization — physically and emotionally.

During the Belgium stop of her Celebration tour, the pop star got choked up while reflecting on the medical emergency that sent her to a hospital for several days in late June.

"Less than four months ago, I was in a hospital and I was unconscious, and people were thinking, predicting that I might not make it," she told the crowd at Sportpaleis arena in a fan-captured video. "It's a f---ing miracle that I'm here right now."

Madonna went on to reference her mother, who died from breast cancer when the future singer was only five years old: "My mother, god bless her, she must be watching over me — she said, 'Girl, it's not your time to go.'"

She continued, "I had this strange thought. I suddenly had sympathy for my mother, not about the dying part, but how lonely she must have felt being in hospital, knowing that she wasn't going to live. And I was given another chance, so I'm very grateful for that."

Strapping on a guitar as the audience cheered her on, Madonna admitted that she wasn't yet back to full health.

"I must tell you I don't feel very well right now," she said. "But I can't complain, because I'm alive. Thank god for my children and all of you, and your love and support."

Back in June, the 65-year-old was rushed to a New York hospital after being found unresponsive in her home. "On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU," her manager, Guy Oseary, announced at the time. "Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected."

In late July, the "Material Girl" singer shared her own update on social media, posting a thank you to fans for their support, along with a video of her dancing to her 1983 track, "Lucky Star." She also shared a post thanking her children for their support throughout her illness and recovery. "When the chips were down, my children really showed up for me," she wrote.

Following her hospitalization, Madonna postponed her supersized Celebration Tour, which was originally set to launch in America on July 15. She will continue through Europe before bringing the career-spanning tour to North America in December with rescheduled dates.
