Madonna dubs COVID-19 'the great equaliser' in bath video

Madonna has given her thoughts on the coronavirus pandemic, opting to film herself in a milky bathtub scattered with floating rose petals all while dubbing the virus "the great equaliser".

The pop star shared the video to her Instagram on Sunday as she remarked that COVID-19 made people "equal in many ways".

She said: “That’s the thing about COVID-19. It doesn’t care about how rich you are, how famous you are, how funny you are.

“How smart you are, where you live, how old you are, what amazing stories you can tell. It’s the great equaliser and what’s terrible about it is what’s great about it.

“What’s terrible about it is that it’s made us all equal in many ways, and what’s wonderful about is, is that it’s made us all equal in many ways.”

The 61-year-old went on: “Like I used to say at the end of ‘Human Nature’ every night, if the ship goes down, we’re all going down together.”

She also included a picture of herself with petals covering up her nipples in the post, which she captioned: "No discrimination – Covid-19! #quarantine #covid_19 #staysafe.”

Madonna is one of many artists who've had tour dates affected by the virus. She cancelled the final two shows of her Madame X Tour due to worries over the coronavirus.

The shows were due to take place at Le Grand Rex in Paris on 10 and 11 March.

Major music events have also been cancelled or postponed, with Glastonbury Festival and US festival SXSW among those compromised by the virus.

In addition, the Eurovision Song Contest, which Madonna made an appearance at last year, has been cancelled for the first time ever.
