A Married at First Sight Australia contestant has thanked the show for opening her eyes to gaslighting.
Andrea Thompson, who has been matched with the show's oldest-ever contestant, 62-year-old Richard Sauerman, on the latest season of MAFS Australia, learned what the term gaslighting meant while watching a previous season of the show and promptly dumped her partner at the time after realising he was doing it to her.
Andrea, who is 51, opened up about her past in tonight's episode (March 4), including a short-lived marriage to the father of her children and a relationship with a man who became abusive.

Andrea explained that she was watching Married at First Sight with her then-partner, and she became drawn to one of the couples featured on the show. The man in that couple was accused of gaslighting his match by the experts.
Andrea Googled the term and realised that this is what her partner had been doing to her.
"I’m sitting in bed and I Googled ‘gaslighting.' And I’m sat there next to my partner and I’ve realised I’m being gaslit, a lot," Andrea explained.

"So it actually felt like a stick breaking inside me right at the moment because I knew that I was done. Because MAFS broke up my relationship, I feel that they should find me a new man."
Andrea then thanked the show for helping her see what was going on.
So far, Andrea and Richard's marriage looks to be a huge success as they bonded over their shared love of cricket, motorbikes, vulnerability, and being free spirits.
Married at First Sight UK airs on E4 in the UK. Married at First Sight Australia airs on Nine Network in Australia and E4 in the UK.
