Married at First Sight Australia's photo-ranking segment has been criticised by former contestant Jules Robinson following its introduction this year.

In the series, the new element sees each couple rating the boys and girls in order of who they find the most attractive – like something straight out of Love Island.

Robinson, who appeared on the show four years ago, told MailOnline that this awkward process can only be detrimental to everyone involved.

"I think that if you watch the Australian version, now they do the attractive test, or whatever they call it, and they have to line them up from one to 10... What is the positive in doing that, though?" she said.

"I looked at when I was in that experiment, there was no one that I would be matched with other than [her husband Cameron Merchant]. There was just no one and I just think, I would have downright said: 'No I'm not doing this.'"

"There's no benefit to doing that in a relationship at all. I don't know why they do that to the cast now, unless the person has some emotional intelligence, and knows to put their partner at the top, I just don't think anything good can come from that," she added.

Meanwhile, the reality TV star also confessed that she and Merchant had been caught unawares by the legion of MAFS fans that emerged during lockdown.

"All of a sudden our Instagrams were just blowing up with DMs and our following was raising rapidly day-by-day. It was like two years ago and I think being here now it still seems quite fresh to people but we've been married for five years now. It's quite old," said Robinson.

"It's been amazing. We've been blown away by the support."
