Magnify Nabs Global Sales Rights to ‘Veni Vidi Vici’ Ahead of Sundance Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)

Magnify, which was formerly known as Magnolia Pictures International, has acquired global and U.S. sales rights to “Veni Vidi Vici,” an Austrian social satire from directors’ Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann. Written by Hoesl, the film will debut in the World Dramatic Competition section of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. It marks the first title acquired for sales under the newly rebranded Magnify label.

In “Veni Vidi Vici,” the Maynards and their children lead an almost perfect billionaire family life. Amon is a passionate hunter, but doesn’t shoot animals, as the family’s wealth allows them to live totally free from consequences.

“Daniel and Julia have crafted an exquisite, sophisticated and timely satire that delves into the dynamics of privilege. Fuelled with dark humor, psychotic absurdity, and hyper-realistic violence, ‘Veni Vidi Vici’ promises a captivating watch in Park City, that we are thrilled to launch under the freshly rebranded Magnify label,“ said Lorna Lee Torres, the company’s SVP of global sales.

Hoesl is no newcomer to Sundance, his first feature “Soldier Jane” premiered in Sundance’s world competition section in 2013 and won in Tiger Competition at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. His second feature, “WiNWiN” premiered in Rotterdam. In his latest film “Davos,” Hoesl partnered with Niemann. That film played in Vision Du Réel, Zurich International Film Festival, ad the Viennale, among others.

“After many years following the money trail questioning the price of money itself, isn’t it time to pose the question to all of us: Why do we let this happen? Isn’t it in our own hands to put an end to this? We’re super happy to return to the hunting grounds of Park City with our newest film, ‘Veni Vidi Vici’ and partner with the team at Magnify!” said filmmaker Hoesl and Niemann.

The film stars Laurence Rupp (“Barbarians”), Ursina Lardi (“The White Ribbon”), Dominik Warta (“The Trouble With Being Born”), and newcomer, Olivia Goschler. The film is produced by Ulrich Seidl of Ulrich Seidl Filmproduktion, the producers of “Goodnight Mommy.”

Magnify’s lineup, includes “The Deliquents,” which is Argentina’s entry for the 96th Academy Awards; “Kokomo City,” a hit at Sundance; and “Joan Baez: I Am A Noise.”

Magnify’s Torres will launch sales of “Veni Vidi Vici” in Sundance with Austin Kennedy, director of global sales. It will then be available at the EFM Berlin film market.
