An Exeter city centre store could be about to undergo a huge revamp. A major retailer has unveiled its plans for an exciting new feature.

Fashion brand H&M has submitted plans for a brand new department in its Exeter store, which is situated in a large unit on the High Street. An application has been submitted to Exeter City Council for new signage on its Bedford Street entrance, which hints what the new feature will be.

Images included within the application show that the retailer wants to replace its current signage on the corner of the store with an H&M Home sign, indicating that it plans to bring its homeware collection to Exeter. The plans also include replacing existing cladding for the entire ground floor.

The Exeter store last underwent changes in 2017, when it expanded into the site on the corner of Bedford Street and the High Street which had previously been occupied by Goldsmiths jewellers and Vodafone. Makeup counters were also introduced at the time but H&M said there would be no homeware department.

The retailer currently has more than 180 stores around the UK but only a handful stock homeware. According to H&M's store locator, there are 32 UK stores with homeware departments but none are currently in Devon, with the nearest one for Exeter shoppers being in Bristol's Cabot Circus.

H&M Home is mainly stocked online, with products ranging from basic furniture, including tables, chairs and storage, to bedding, bathroom and decorations.
