The A1089 in Essex was closed for around six hours for emergency roadworks on Saturday morning (May 4). The roadworks were to fix an 'infrastructure defect'.

The northbound carriageway was closed between Tilbury Docks and the A126 (Asda roundabout). The closure was first reported by National Highways shortly after 2.30am.

Traffic was diverted while works were carried out. The road reopened before 9am.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Traffic is being diverted via local routes. Thank you for your patience whilst these works are carried out."

They later said: "The A1089 in Essex is now open northbound between Tilbury Docks and the A126 (Asda roundabout). These were emergency roadworks due to an infrastructure defect."
