Thousands of Hinckley homes have been left without power after a network “fault”. The outage has also forced the closure of a major secondary school in the area.

The outage hit the LE10 postcode at around 2am this morning (Tuesday, June 25), when a “fault” occurred on National Grid’s underground network. The power cut left 3,386 properties across the Hinckley area without power.

Among those impacted is The Hinckley School in Butt Lane. The secondary school said National Grid had been “unable to secure power” for their computers and alarm systems, meaning the school could not open as normal today.

The closure affects all students at the school, but a spokesperson said some Year 7 pupils due on a trip should still attend as normal. A spokesperson for the school apologised for “any inconvenience caused” by the closure.

Work on restoring power across the LE10 area is ongoing this morning according to National Grid. It said: “We are aware of this power cut incident which was raised at 2.03am this morning and our engineers are working to get the power returned as quickly as possible. We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you.”

National Grid said the majority of the more than 3,000 properties had since been reconnected. Engineers are continuing to restore the remaining power, with the company saying it should be fully restored by 12 noon.
