Malala Yousafzai gets into Oxford to study PPE

Malala Yousafzai was just one of the nervous youngsters waiting for news of their A Level results.

However, it was good news for the UN Messenger of Peace and young student.

She found out through UCAS early on Thursday morning that she had met the grades required to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford.

The women's rights campaigner, from an area in northwest Pakistan which banned girls from attending school, was overjoyed that she will be studying at one of the world's best universities.

She wrote on Twitter: "So excited to go to Oxford!! Well done to all A-level students - the hardest year. Best wishes for life ahead!"

The young woman, who was shot in the head by the Taliban and was flown to Britain for treatment, where she ended up attending school, is celebrating her place at Oxford.

Malala emerged as an anonymous advocate for girls’ education at the age of just 11, when she blogged for BBC Urdu about living in Pakistan’s Swat Valley under Taliban rule in 2009.

When the Taliban were driven from the region she came out of the shadows to argue in public that girls should be allowed to go to school, which made her a target.

After being shot, she thrived in the UK, winning the Nobel Peace Price at the age of 17.

Going to Oxford is just the latest in a long list of achievements for the brave young woman.
