A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Woolwich in broad daylight.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Powis Street in Woolwich at around 3pm yesterday afternoon.

A man believed to be in his 20s was taken to hospital and police say his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

One man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Police believe the male was attacked on Barnard Place and a crime scene currently remains in place.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service shortly before 15:00hrs on Wednesday, 3 July to reports of a male stabbed on Powis Street, SE18.

“Officers and London’s Air Ambulance attended. The man, who is believed to be aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment. His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

“At this stage it is believed that he was attacked on Barnard Place.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

“A crime scene is in place.

“Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 4601/03Jul.”
