Man, 33, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing at block of flats

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 'nasty' stabbing at a block of flats in south Manchester.

Emergency services descended on Withington Road after the attack at around 8pm on Sunday (May 5). A cordon was put in place around the Bowling Green Court flats by police officers.

The victim was rushed to hospital from the scene after the stabbing. His injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing, Greater Manchester Police said.

A 27-year-old man who had previously been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent was later released with no further action to be taken against him.

In a new update on Wednesday (May 8), GMP said a 33-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The victim is said to be 'recovering well' following the knife attack.

A spokesperson said: "A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The victim is thankfully recovering well. Yesterday a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of S18 assault. He has been released with no further action to be taken."

After the incident on Sunday evening, forensic officers were pictured scouring the scene for evidence. Local residents reported seeing blood in the entrance to the building.

Patrols were stepped up in the local area. GMP's Detective Inspector Leanne Gibb said previously: "Our officers are hard at work at the scene establishing the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

"This was a nasty attack and we are determined to apprehend the person responsible. I want to reassure the local community that we believe this to have been an isolated incident and here is no wider risk to the public.

"We have deployed officers to the scene to assist with enquiries and if you have any concerns I would urge you to speak to them. We are also appealing for any information or footage - including mobile, CCTV or dashcam.
