Man arrested after becoming 'aggressive to security staff' at Trinity Square shops in Gateshead

A man in his 50s has been arrested over a "disturbance" in the centre of Gateshead.

The incident took place at around 2.50pm on Tuesday afternoon in the High Street and Trinity Square area as police were called to reports of aggression towards security staff. A number of police vehicles and a police van were at the scene.

The man was subsequently arrested and held in police custody.

In a statement, a Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 2.50pm today [Tuesday], we received a report of a disturbance on the High Street in Gateshead.

"It was understood that a male in the Trinity Square area had become aggressive to security staff. The man - aged in his 50s - has been arrested in connection with the report.

"He remains in police custody at this time. Enquiries remain ongoing."
