Man arrested after Mercedes found wedged nose-down in a BASEMENT

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a Mercedes ended up wedged in a basement after ploughing through some railings.

The Mercedes-Benz C220 was left nose down with just its rear wheels sticking up into the air after it crashed into the Fountain House serviced apartment block on Lancaster Terrace, central London.

The driver was unhurt but the surreal sight left commuters coming out of Lancaster Gate tube station intrigued and amused as they queued up to take photographs of the stricken car.

The Mercedes C220 went on sale in 2014 retailing at around £26,000 new.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “The driver of the car did not require hospital treatment.

“He was arrested on suspicion of drink-drive offences. He has been taken into custody at a south west London police station.”
