Man Arrested Outside Buckingham Palace, Police Say
A man was arrested outside Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening, May 2, after throwing suspected shotgun cartridges into palace grounds, police said.
The Metropolitan Police said a controlled explosion was conducted as a precaution.
The man was arrested around 7 pm on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon after he was searched and a knife was found. Police said they are not treating the matter as terror-related.
This footage, posted to Twitter on Tuesday evening by Chris Drewitt, shows a person being handcuffed outside the gates of Buckingham Palace.
The arrest comes four days before the King’s Coronation celebrations, which will be attended by other royals and world leaders. A rehearsal for the coronation was taking place on Tuesday evening, according to the Palace. Credit: Chris Drewitt via Storyful
