A man has been arrested after a large package of suspected drugs was found following a chase in Southampton.

Officers on patrol in the city centre this week spotted a man on an electric scooter.

When they asked him to stop, he got off his scooter but took off to run away from them, sparking a chase.

Following a brief chase, the man was stopped and detained on the floor.

Officers found a large package of suspected Class A drugs.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and as of Friday evening he was still in custody,

This is part of many incidents which officers have seen throughout this week.

In another instance, a different man, who was wanted by police, was spotted by an officer on his way to work.

Once more officers got to the scene, the man began to run away and following a chase he was detained by the off-duty police officer.

He was taken into custody while enquiries continued.

In another incident, a man was issued a community resolution following a shoplifting.

Lastly, two men were issued with community protection warnings after it was found counterfeit perfume and other items were being sold in the city centre.

In a post on Facebook, the police said they will continue to pursue criminals.

It said: “We will continue the relentless pursuit of criminals who bring drug-related harm into our communities as this underpins a large number of crimes seen within the city centre.

“Moral of this post, don’t run… because you will be tired when you get to custody.”
