Man attacked and dog 'kicked' in street as suspect flees scene on foot

A man was left needing medical help after he was set upon and his pooch was 'kicked'.

The attack unfolded at about 1.15pm yesterday (July 3) on Portland Street, Southport. Police got a call that the victim, in his 50s, had been assaulted by another man.

It's reported that the victim's dog was kicked by the attacker before he legged it from the scene on foot. Paramedics checked over the victim but he didn't need to be taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that we received a report of an assault on Portland Street, in Southport, earlier this afternoon, Wednesday 3 July. At around 1.15pm, it was reported that a man aged in his 50s had been assaulted by another male.

"During the incident, the victim's dog was reportedly kicked by the male. The suspect then left the scene on foot.

"Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was assessed by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment. If you witnessed this incident or have any information, please call 101 or DM @MerPolCC quoting reference number 24000582984."
