Man bought mystery food box from Morrisons and got 72 onions

A gobsmacked shopper was left in ears after he ended up with a whopping 72 onions from a Morrisons 'Too Good To Go' mystery box aimed at slashing food waste.

Tim Clarke, who thought he'd nabbed himself a bargain, was overwhelmed by the sheer number of bulbs he received. The Too Good To Go app is designed to help customers snap up discounted grub that's nearing its sell-by date, but it's always a surprise what's inside the box.

Tim's haul included some strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, red potatoes, an iceberg lettuce, a single red onion, and an avocado, but it was the mountain of white onions that really tipped the scales. Since the unexpected onion avalanche, Tim has been desperately searching for recipes to make use of his new stockpile.

He's considering whipping up an onion pie and an onion curry to tackle the surplus. Tim, from Stockport, said: "I was quite happy as we needed onions but I was conscious that we only have a small fridge.

"We use onions daily but now need to find onion-based meals. We decided to get a Too Good To Go box to save money and be environmentally conscious.

"Bargain box for £3.09 we thought, however, we got a commercial quantity of onions. Very dull meals ahead."
