The man dialled 999 on New Year’s Day and was told the emergency service could not provide the test.

A man called 999 because he suspected his partner of cheating.

The man requested an ambulance to provide a DNA test.

When an operator asked the caller “is the patient breathing”, he replied: “I’m just calling because my partner has cheated on me.“

A recording of the bizarre call, made on New Year’s Day, was shared on Twitter by the North West Ambulance Service.

It was captioned: “FFS – Friday fact share. So we got this 999 call on New Year’s Day… Sound up! A man called us for a DNA test after accusing his partner of cheating. Really though?!”

Below is a transcript of the call:

Emergency Operator: Right, listen to me is the patient breathing?

Caller: Hello?

EO: Is the patient breathing?

C: Everything okay, I want you ambulance to come to my house to go to do DNA test.

EO: Excuse me? Why?

C: Because my partner has cheated on me.

EO: Right, OK this is an emergency service, we don’t do DNA tests.

The rather patient operator then explains: “Sir, listen to me, listen to me, this is an emergency line, we don’t deal with domestic cases and we don’t do DNA tests so I suggest you speak to somebody else.”

C: Which number? Can I get a number please?

EO: I’ve not got a number for DNA tests I’m afraid.

C: Thank you very much, bye.

EO: Bye bye.
