Man Catches Fire at Portland Protest as Police Report People Throwing Molotov Cocktails

Authorities in Portland, Oregon, declared a riot on September 5 as the city saw its 100th day of anti-racism and anti-police brutality protests, according to local reports.

Portland Police in a tweet described the behavior of some protesters as “tumultuous and violent,” accusing them of “causing public alarm” and throwing Molotov cocktails.

This footage shot by video journalist Brendan Gutenschwager shows a man emerging from a fire with his shoes alight. The man frantically tries to extinguish the flames, rolling on the ground as people rush to his aid.

He manages to flick one flaming shoe off while the other is eventually put out.
