A man has been charged with murder after a former Royal Navy officer was run over and killed with his own car in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said Ryan Gibbons, 29, from Chorlton, had also been charged with burglary and aggravated taking without owner's consent.

He has been remanded and is due before Manchester Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Officers were called to Cranbourne Road in Chorlton at around 3am last Sunday morning.

Mike Samwell, 35, was knocked down as his Audi S3 was driven away.

He was taken to hospital but died a short time afterwards.

A 15-year-old boy from south Manchester who was arrested on suspicion of murder and burglary has been bailed, as have two men aged 20 and 21.
