Man 'chases police officer with chainsaw' in major incident in Paisley

Police have locked down a street in Paisley amid reports of a man allegedly chasing officers with a chainsaw.

Cops were called to a major incident on Glasgow Road on Monday afternoon.

Footage shared on social media shows a man brandishing a weapon in the residential street.

An eyewitness at the scene claimed a man driving a black car collided with a police vehicle before getting out and allegedly chasing officers with the electric saw.

One image shared online shows a marked police car which crashed into the wall of a property near where the incident took place.

Residents said a flurry of unmarked and marked police cars and vans appearing within seconds of the alarm being raised.

An ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.

It is unclear if anyone has been injured.

Police Scotland Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Facebook page posted: "Glasgow Road in Paisley is closed between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue following a disturbance.

"Officers are at the scene.

"Please avoid the area. Drivers are urged to use an alternative route."
