It has been a difficult week for Liverpool, with its faint title hopes now all but over. The Reds were beaten by Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in midweek and followed that up with a draw at West Ham on Saturday.

Jürgen Klopp and his squad will have seen Arsenal extend its lead at the top by beating Tottenham in the north London derby, with the Gunners now having a five-point lead over Liverpool — and a considerably better goal difference — with three games to go.

Fellow title rivals Manchester City then had to keep pace with Arsenal against Nottingham Forest to keep the pressure on. Joško Gvardiol headed the visitors in front before substitute Erling Haaland found the net in the second half.

But it was the chant from the away end at the City Ground that will have caught the attention of Liverpool supporters. Shortly after Haaland's strike, City fans could be heard singing 'Jürgen's cracking up' to the tune of 'Football's Coming Home', in reference to the Reds' recent dip in form.

While it has been a disappointing run of form for Liverpool, few expected Klopp's side to be anywhere near the title picture at the start of the season. Let's not forget, the Reds finished fifth last term, 22 points behind champions City.

The two sides have been involved in some titanic tussles in recent years, regularly battling out for supremacy at the top of the Premier League. Liverpool emerged victorious during the 2019/20 season and twice missed out on the final day to Pep Guardiola's side.

The Spaniard has often lauded his counterpart and believes Klopp has been his biggest rival in his distinguished managerial career. “I will sleep better when Klopp goes," Guardiola said when Klopp announced his plans to leave Liverpool (via The Guardian).

"The games we play before against Liverpool were almost a nightmare. Of course he will be missed.. I felt when I heard the news that a part of Man City, we will lose something. We cannot define our period here without him, without Liverpool. Impossible.

“Liverpool has been our biggest rivals. And personally he [Klopp] has been the best rival I ever had in my life, in Dortmund when I was in Bayern, then here. I think the Premier League is going to miss him, the charisma, the personality and especially the way his teams play."

Liverpool will of course have a new manager in its dugout next season, most likely Arne Slot. He will have a long way to go to replicate Klopp's success and it appears City fans are delighted the German is stepping down this summer.
