Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes was seen crying at St James' Park amid rumours he could be on the move this summer.

The Brazilian shed tears at the final whistle following Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Brighton at St James' Park, but whether it was Guimaraes' last stand for the club remains to be seen. He has been linked with a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain in recent months along with Manchester City.

Reports have also suggested that there could be interest from Dan Ashworth, who is set to join from Newcastle. Ashworth has been on gardening leave since February after he informed the North East club that he wished to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS at Old Trafford.

Guimaraes' camp negotiated a release clause in his latest Newcastle contract and it can be triggered in the coming weeks despite his deal expiring in 2028. Magpies boss Eddie Howe has previously made it clear that he wants to build a team around the midfielder.

He said: "It goes without saying what my thoughts on the Bruno situation are. We want to keep him, we want to build our team around him and he’s an integral part of what we are doing. His form has been very good, he seems very happy and settled, he will be thinking about a busy summer ahead and where we can hopefully take the team.

"He is a big part of that. I am aware of his contractual status but it's not something I focus on. When it’s something you don’t necessarily have control over, I don’t tend to worry about it."

Newcastle may be forced to sell this summer as they are currently hamstrung by Financial Fair Play constraints. Howe previously added: "Where we sit now in terms of wages and transfer fees, I don't think we are in a position to do that.

"We have to sign and develop players with the potential to become world-class. We are well on the way to doing that. It does not mean you can't have [world-class] players in your squad, it just means that you have to work really hard with them. I have no issue doing it."
