Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City have slapped a £10m asking price on the shoulders of striker Liam Delap, according to reports.

Delap said his goodbyes to Hull City on Saturday after his promising loan spell came to a disappointing end, having been taken off at half-time during the Tigers' 1-0 loss at Plymouth Argyle.

The defeat left City and their supporters feeling flat after missing out on a place in the play-offs, with Liam Rosenior and Lewie Coyle admitting there were tears in the away dressing room at Home Park, as the realisation set in that a promising squad would now be broken up.

Striker Delap became a firm favourite on the terraces at the MKM Stadium after a blistering start to his City career saw him score on the opening day at Norwich City before bagging the winner at eventual champions Leicester City on September 2 to inflict the Foxes' first defeat.

A knee injury the 21-year-old picked up early in the New Year saw him miss three months of action and that proved to be a crucial factor in City missing out on the top six, before he returned to fire his eighth goal of the season against Ipswich Town at the end of April.

Delap's future at the Etihad Stadium is likely to be a key topic of discussion throughout the summer, and while City would like him back with the England Under-21 international keen to return, the reported £10m price tag The Sun claim has been slapped on his shoulders, would almost certainly end those hopes.

City will be busy this summer and once again, attacking players will be top of the club's shopping list and Delap would be on that list, provided the fee was much lower than £10m with another season-long loan preferred.

Speaking exclusively to Hull Live last month, Delap admitted he was loving his time at City, and revealed discussions would take place this summer about what happens next.

"There's discussions that obviously get had, so I'll just see what happens," he said. "I do love it here and I do love the fans, I love playing and playing with the manager and with the boys. We'll just see what happens and, you know, there's conversations to be had."
