Toronto police are looking for two suspects after a man in a vehicle was shot dead in an Etobicoke shopping plaza on Thursday.

The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. in the area of Finch Avenue West and Westmore Drive, Toronto police say.

Det.-Sgt. Al Bartlett, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, said people in one vehicle reportedly shot at another vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has not been identified, but police revealed he was 39 years old in an update on Saturday.

Police say the suspects fled westbound on Finch Avenue in a four-door dark coloured Honda. The suspect vehicle would have some damage to its right rear, Bartlett said.

"We understand that a violent incident like the one that has happened here has a deep impact on the community and is incredibly jarring," he said.

A number of bullet holes were visible on the driver's side windshield of a white Ford SUV in the parking lot.

Bartlett said it is still early in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
