A man has died following a police incident on the Dartford Crossing this morning, Tuesday May 7. Emergency services were called at around 9am to the QEII Bridge, which connects Essex and Kent over the River Thames, following reports concerned for the welfare of a man.

According to EssexLive, the bridge was completely blocked for an hour while emergency services worked at the scene. The closure caused long delays on the major road, with eight miles of traffic leading back to the A12.

The road has now been reopened.

Essex Police have confirmed a man died at the scene of the incident. A spokesman said: "Officers were called to the QEII bridge at around 9am this morning (7 May) following a concern for welfare report.

"Emergency services were in attendance and sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are aware. The bridge was fully closed and has since been re-opened."

No other injuries have been reported in the incident and police say they believe the death to not be suspicious.
