Man dies after mobility scooter hit by Mercedes in Rotherham

A 70-year-old man has died after being hit by a car while riding a mobility scooter in Rotherham.

South Yorkshire Police were called to Magna Lane at 9.17am on Saturday, June 15, to reports of a man on a blue mobility scooter being hit by a red Mercedes C220. The Mercedes was heading from the direction of the A630 and crashed with the scooter as it crossed Magna Lane.

The crash took place between the junctions at Foljambe Drive and the A630.

A 70-year-old man who was driving the mobility scooter was taken to hospital. He has now sadly died.

The woman who was driving the Mercedes remained on the scene and has been assisting the police in their investigation. South Yorkshire Police said: "At 9.17am on Saturday (15 June), officers were called to Magna Lane following reports of a collision involving a red Mercedes C220 and a blue mobility scooter.

"It is reported that the Mercedes, which was heading from the direction of the A630, collided with the mobility scooter as it began to cross Magna Lane, with the collision happening between the junctions at Foljambe Drive and the A630. A 70-year-old man who was riding the mobility scooter was taken to hospital with serious injuries and has since sadly died.

"A woman who was driving the Mercedes remained at the scene and has been assisting officers with their enquiries."
