Man facing £10,000 fine as up to 150 people attend house party in tier 3 Nottingham

A man faces a £10,000 fine after police officers found more than 100 people at a house party in Nottingham shortly after midnight on Monday.

Police were alerted to a large gathering on Lace Street in a residential area of Nottingham shortly after 12:30am on Monday.

On arrival, officers found between 100 and 150 people inside the property, according to Nottinghamshire Police.

A 20-year-old-man was reported for summons and could be handed a £10,000 fine for breaching coronavirus restrictions, police said.

Another man, 19-year-old Isaiah Zanamwe, of Kent, was arrested and charged with obstructing a police officer. He also received a £200 fixed penalty fine, as did several other partygoers for breaking Covid-19 regulations in the tier 3 area..

Mr Zanamwe was released on bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 26 January 2021.

Inspector Amy English, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The current tier 3 restrictions for Nottinghamshire are in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to save lives.

"It is deeply disappointing that so many people decided to disobey the rules on this occasion and increase the risk of transmission of this deadly virus.

"The restrictions are in place for a reason and the only way we are going to stop the virus is if we all stick to the rules.

"The very last thing we want to be doing as police officers is to be punishing people for gathering together and having fun but there really are no excuses for this kind of behaviour where people are blatantly ignoring rules in such large numbers."
