A man has been banned from driving after he was pictured putting two fingers up at a road safety camera.

Marc Swanston, 23, took both hands off the wheel and gave a double-fingered gesture at the camera, just after he was caught doing 70mph in a 60mph zone.

However, his act of defiance on the A811 in Stirlingshire in May came back to haunt him as he was hauled before Stirling Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance and speeding.

Safety Camera Scotland mocked Swanston by sharing an image of him driving, with the caption: “Think speeding & ‘waving’ at the camera (A811 Stirling) – when you’ve no insurance – is cool? Ends in £300 fine. Disq for 6 months. Cool Now?”

Inspector Andrew Thomson, of the divisional roads policing unit, said: “The camera unit attends locations with a history of collisions involving speed.

“The A811 has a long history of such collisions and this driver’s disregard for the limit could have resulted in tragic consequences.”

“The additional offence of no insurance simply makes matters worse. We will continue to patrol regularly on these routes and deal with alleged offenders robustly.”

Swanston has been fined £300 and given a six-month driving ban.
