Man found dead at home 'might have been pushed over' in earlier Leyland pub incident

A man who was tragically found dead at a house 'might have been pushed over' during an earlier pub incident, police said.

Lancashire Constabulary were called to address in Hollinshead Street, Chorley, shortly after 4pm on Monday (June 24) following reports of a sudden death. He has today been named as Paul Ainscough.

Police are now appealing for witnesses following the 57-year-old's death and are looking to speak to people who were at the Stag pub in Worden Lane, Leyland, last Saturday (June 22) between 4.30pm and 7.30pm. Detectives believe he was 'involved in an incident' in the pub’s beer garden, and that he 'might have been pushed over during it'.

Mr Ainscough was believed to have been wearing a bucket hat at the time. Anyone who was in the pub or beer garden and witnessed the incident is being urged to get in contact.

In a statement issued this afternoon (June 29), Lancashire Constabulary said: "At 4.09pm on Monday 24th June, our officers were called to an address in Hollinshead Street, Chorley, to a report of a sudden death. Very sadly, Paul Ainscough, 57, was found deceased.

"Our thoughts are very much with his family at this distressing time. As part of our enquiries into Mr Ainscough’s death, we want to speak to people who were at the Stag pub, Worden Lane, Leyland, last Saturday (22nd June) between around 4.30pm and 7.30pm.

"We believe he was involved in an incident in the pub’s beer garden, and he might have been pushed over during it. Mr Ainscough was believed to have been wearing a bucket hat at the time.

"If you were in the pub or its beer garden and witnessed the incident, we urge you to get in touch."

A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident initially on suspicion of a section 18 assault but has since been released on bail. Detectives say their enquiries are "very much ongoing" and specially trained officers are supporting the family.
