Man found dead at Scots home as police cordon off flats

A man has been found dead at a home in Lanarkshire.

Police raced to Shiel Gardens in Shotts after the alarm was raised at around 8.20am on Thursday. Ambulance crews attended but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained. Officers say their enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Pictures shared with the Record showed a block of flats on the street cordoned off by police.

Officers could be seen standing guard after an investigation was launched.

One local resident told the Record how police descended onto the scene this morning.

The neighbour said: "It happened this morning but the place is still hoatching with police. Officers arrived about 9am after someone reported what had happened.

"The police have cordoned off the whole block of buildings. Police won't tell us anything but this has come as a big shock to everyone here."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.20am on Thursday, May 9, 2024, officers were called to a property in Shiel Gardens, Shotts, where a man was pronounced dead.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
