Man hit with metal bar after fight breaks out in Cullompton town centre

A man was reportedly hit several times with a metal bar in a fight in Cullompton town centre. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the High Street at around 4.45pm on Tuesday (May 7).

An altercation had broken out between a group of youths and two men before one male youth and one of the men became involved in a fight. The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries after reportedly being struck with a metal bar.

Police said a window was also smashed on the car occupied by the men. Investigating officers are now appealing to the public for information on what happened.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 4.45pm on 7 May following reports of an assault and disturbance in Cullompton town centre.

"The altercation broke out between a group of youths and two men in High Street. One male youth and one of the men were subsequently involved in a physical altercation.

"The man in his 40s reported being struck several times with a metal bar. He sustained minor injuries to his head and was taken to hospital. A window was also smashed on the car occupied by the men.

"Police are conducting enquiries and are appealing for witnesses to contact them. Please report information online or telephone 101, quoting crime reference 50240109525."
