Man injured after serious assault by gang 'with weapons' in Basildon town centre

A MAN has been left injured after a serious assault by a gang "with weapons" in Basildon town centre.

Essex Police say they are investigating an assault after a man sustained injuries to his head, arm and leg.

They say this was after an incident involving "a number of people" in Basildon.

Officers were called to Southernhay shortly before 4.30pm on Saturday.

A man, aged in his 20s, had been assaulted by the group, some of whom used items as weapons, close to Basildon bus station.

At this stage, no arrests have been made.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are investigating after a man sustained injuries to his head, arm and leg after an incident involving a number of people in Basildon.

"We were called to Southernhay shortly before 4.30pm on Saturday, May 4.

"A man, aged in his 20s, had been assaulted by the group, some of whom used items as weapons, close to Basildon bus station.

"Thankfully his injuries are not considered to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"At this stage, no arrests have been made and we’re following a number of lines of enquiry, including the use of CCTV.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information on it should get in touch.
