Man injured in street attack in Cornwall

A man was assaulted in a street in Cornwall late last night (Monday, May 13). At about 10.50pm last night, police were alerted to reports of an assault near Newquay Zoo.

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the scene on Trenance Road, Newquay, where a man was found with foot, hand and head injuries following an assault. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

While the extent of his injuries are not known at this time, it is not thought that they are life-changing or threatening. Police cordoned the area and officers are continuing to carry out enquiries.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified at around 10.50pm on Monday 13 May following reports of an assault on Trenance Road, Newquay. Emergency services attended the scene.

"A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with foot, hand and head injuries. Enquiries are ongoing. Anybody with information can contact police on 101 or via our website quoting crime reference 50240115517."

A witness said there police had cordoned off an area outside of Newquay Zoo. They said: “Incident unfolding at Newquay Zoo road closed that area. Police tape up in a few places. Couldn’t get anywhere near where the police tape was.”
