Man killed in Ellesmere Port stabbing is named

The man who has been killed in a stabbing in Ellesmere Port has now been named. The incident happened around 8pm on Wednesday (May 1) on Summertrees Road.

Police were called to the scene following a report a man being assaulted by three unknown men. When emergency services arrived they found a man had been stabbed several times.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where he has since died. Dozens of people have paid tribute to the victim, who has today been named as 34-year-old Lloyd Velasquez, the Echo reports.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

Enquiries in relation to the incident have been ongoing throughout the night, and it is now believed that the victim was assaulted by three men who were known to him.

Two men have since been arrested in relation to the incident, a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, both from Ellesmere Port.

Both remain in police custody and enquiries remain ongoing.

Chief Superintendent Jon Betts said: “We would like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident. Two people have already been arrested and we still have enquiries ongoing.

“I understand the concern that this is likely to cause, but we would like to assure residents that this type of incident is incredibly rare in Cheshire. There will be extra patrols conducted in the area to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns is urged to speak to an officer.

“As part of the investigation we’re still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed what took place. The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage.”

Multiple cordons were in place on Summertrees Road and police officers were guarding the scene. Another scene was also in place on Kendal Drive where a garage was cordoned off. Cheshire Police confirmed to the ECHO this scene was connected to the murder investigation.

Floral tributes have also been left near to the cordon. One message on a floral tribute read: “Thinking of all your family and friends. You will be very much missed.”

One neighbour said they saw people giving the victim CPR. They said: "It's just so sad, we saw a man receiving CPR and I knew it was bad then."

Another added a police helicopter was also circling the area "for around 40 minutes". Other residents living close by said the area was quiet. A neighbour said: "Nothing like this has ever happened."
