A Peterborough man who posed as a police officer by fitting blue lights to his car and pulling over a lone female driver could face jail time. Chris Green from Nero Place initially pleaded guilty to impersonating a police officer following his arrest in May 2023, but later changed his plea to not guilty.

He was convicted of the offence at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, May 9. The court heard that Green was driving a Ford Fiesta at around 30mph in a 60mph zone when a woman overtook him, reports SWNS.

Moments later, Green overtook her with blue lights flashing from his vehicle. Believing she was being pulled over by the police, she stopped in Longsplatt, Box, Wiltshire.

Green then got out of his car and approached her window, accusing her of dangerous driving. During the incident on May 6 last year, she asked where he was from and he replied: "I work for law enforcement, a local undercover crime unit The Brotherhood".

He then walked around her car, inspecting it. After noticing her child in the car, he reportedly changed his tone and drove off immediately.

The victim described the encounter as "bizarre and weird" and said she felt uncomfortable throughout. She reported the incident to the police after informing her husband.

Police officers remained vigilant for the suspect car, and located it in the Chippenham area by luck two days later - on May 8, 2023.

Upon stopping Green, officers discovered a blue flashing dash light in his vehicle. They also found a baseball bat and handcuffs.

The defendant, a security guard employed at the Badminton Horse Trials, denied that he had intentionally led the woman to believe he was a police officer. Nonetheless, after an hour of deliberations, magistrates convicted him of the offence.

Green was granted unconditional bail and is due to return for sentencing in June.
