A man deliberately tried to get beaten up by a complete stranger in an attempt to win sympathy from his girlfriend.

Justanas Survilas was filmed on CCTV punching a man six times and kicking him in the face outside a pub in Hull late at night in August.

The 29-year-old had been seen “swaggering” around, trying to entice a series of people into fighting him after having relationship problems with his girlfriend.

However, Survilas’ victim did not fight back and his plan to win sympathy failed and he was arrested following the attack.

He admitted causing actual bodily harm to the man and common assault against the man’s partner.

Prosecuting at Hull Crown Court, East Yorkshire, Claire Holmes said Survilas came across his victims as they were walking home from work.

Miss Holmes said: “[The victim] didn’t want to fight, he was just walking home from work.

“But this defendant delivered six punches, at least one of these made contact with [the victim’s female partner] who was trying to protect him.

“He kicked him to the face. [The victim] had two lumps to the head.”

Miss Holmes said Survilas, who wept in the dock as the details were shared with the court, had gone out that night looking for a fight.

She added: “Because he was having problems with his relationship, he decided to get into a fight so he could get injured, so his partner would feel sympathy for him. She’s very upset about all of this.”

Survilas, who works in an Argos warehouse, was not charged with anything involving other people he goaded outside the pub.

Sentencing him, Judge Mark Bury said: “You were swaggering around Hull, picking fights with people, as if you owned the place. One of them was a young woman on her own. She looked distinctly upset.

“You picked on two other people who were just simply walking home from work. You set about one of them by punching him a number of times and kicking him.”

Survilas was handed a suspended six-month prison sentence and ordered him to carry out 80 hours in unpaid work.
