Man United injury latest ahead of Newcastle United clash as 11 players could miss out

Newcastle United are now preparing for the penultimate clash of the 2023/24 Premier League season against Manchester United. The Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion in their last outing.

Eddie Howe's side currently occupy sixth place in the top flight of English football, level on points with Chelsea in seventh. Erik ten Hag's men are following closely in eighth place, with just three points separating the teams as they all battle for a spot in Europe.

The two sides will face off at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, with the game set to get underway at 8pm. The likes of Miguel Almiron, Kieran Trippier and Joelinton could see an increased level of involvement during this clash, after the trio all made a return from injury against the Seagulls, while Fabian Schar could also be involved after just missing out last week.

Sven Botman, Jamal Lascelles, Lewis Miley, Fabian Schar, Matt Targett and Joe Willock remain out.

Ahead of the clash, ChronicleLive have rounded up all the latest Man United injury news...

Marcus Rashford

The England international has missed the last four fixtures for the Red Devils due to a knock he picked up in the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City.

Ten Hag claimed he would feature against Arsenal but was missing from the squad during the 1-0 loss at Old Trafford. "In the last days we trained with Rashy but he didn’t make it," he said. Having just missed out against the Gunners, Rashford could return versus Newcastle.

Possible return date: vs Newcastle United (May 15).

Bruno Fernandes

The Man United captain has missed the last two games against Arsenal and Crystal Palace due to a hand injury. He is back in training but wasn't deemed fit enough to make the match-day squad against Mikel Arteta's side.

"Yesterday, Bruno trained for two days but it was not far enough to recover from his injury to get back in the team," Ten Hag said.

Possible return date: vs Newcastle United (May 15).

Amad Diallo

After the injury to Rashford, Diallo was handed an opportunity to build on his FA Cup heroics against Liverpool. He started the game against Arsenal but was forced off with 20 minutes to go with a knee injury.

Speaking on his social media after the loss, he offered an update on his fitness. "The knee-to-knee in the first half bothered me in the second half," he said. "Otherwise, I’m fine."

Possible return date: vs Newcastle United (May 15).

Harry Maguire

United confirmed the England defender had suffered a muscle injury in training and would be out for up to three weeks with the setback. The will likely rule him out for the remainder of the Premier League season but he could return for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Possible return date: vs Man City (May 25).

Lisandro Martinez

Martinez has returned to first-team training in the build-up to the game against Arsenal, following an injury to his calf. The loss to Arsenal arrived too soon for the Argentinian defender but he could feature on Wednesday.

Possible return date: vs Newcastle United (May 15).

Raphael Varane

Varane, 31, has been absent since the 4-3 loss to Chelsea at the beginning of April. Ten Hag is yet to offer an update on the French international, which could mean he is out for the remainder of the season.

Possible return date: Unknown.

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof was forced off during the 1-1 draw with Brentford on March 30. Shortly after the game, the club confirmed he would be unavailable for 'at least a month' following the injury. No update has been given and it remains to be seen whether or not he will feature again this season.

Possible return date: Unknown.

Luke Shaw

Injuries have again plagued the United defender, who has since suffered a setback in his bid to return from a muscle injury. "Luke Shaw had a setback in his process as well but there is still hope and he will fight to be available for the [FA Cup] final."

Possible return date: vs Man City (May 25).

Tyrell Malacia

The left-back has not featured for the club since the final day of last season, after undergoing surgery to repair a knee problem. He will not return this season to recover in time for the 2024/25 campaign.

Speaking in March, the United boss said: "I think it's going to be difficult for this season to be available. He will fight, he's back on the pitch, but not in the team and the process had some setbacks and is still going slowly forward, and the season is going to an end."

Possible return date: Unknown.

Mason Mount

Mount was forced off during training in the build-up to the Arsenal clash, with Ten Hag hesitant to offer specifics on the setback. "I have to report unfortunately yesterday Mason Mount fell out," Ten Hag said. "So he will not be available for Sunday."

Possible return date: Unknown.

Anthony Martial

Martial returned to training in recent weeks but did not feature in the match-day squad against Crystal Palace or Arsenal. His contract is set to expire this season and it is unclear if he will be involved against Newcastle.

Possible return date: vs Newcastle United (May 15).
