Manchester United face question marks over a number of players in the summer transfer window, but no more than Mason Greenwood. After spending last season on loan in Spain with Getafe, his future is expected to be away from Old Trafford.

MEN Sport understands the 22-year-old will be sold permanently this summer. Greenwood last played for United in January 2022. He was arrested later that month before charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped in February 2023.

A number of European clubs are thought to be interested in Greenwood after he bagged 10 goals and six assists for Getafe. Borussia Dortmund and Lazio have both been mentioned in the race for the Englishman but Juventus are understood to be pushing ahead.

The Serie A giants are not well-backed and will struggle to meet the suggested €40m-€50m (£34m-£42m) asking price for Greenwood. However, under new head coach Thiago Motta, one of Juve's star players could be included in an exchange for Greenwood.

Federico Chiesa's current deal in Turin expires in 2025 meaning he faces being sold this window. Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed he is not part of Motta's plans so could subsequently be offered in a deal to United.

The 26-year-old has been a consistent attacker in Italy over the years. He netted 34 goals for Fiorentina before moving to Juventus, where he has bagged a further 32 and 23 assists.

A versatile forward, the Italy international can play on both wings or down the centre. One of United's biggest problems in the offensive department is the lack of versatility from their players, Chiesa would automatically solve that.

When analysing his numbers, there's enough reason to be tempted by his signature. According to FBRef, he ranks in the top 99th percentile for shot-creating action per 90 (4.79) and 97th percentile for progressive carries (4.55 per 90).

An electric, forward-thinking attacker is something Erik ten Hag could certainly do with for the 2024/25 season. Chiesa ticks many of the boxes for the profile needed at Old Trafford. However, FFP presents an unwanted flaw.

The financial constraints continue to be a prominent issue for the club and MEN Sport understands United are working off a budget of tens of millions to recruit three priority signings - a centre-back, a midfielder and a striker - meaning player sales will play a key part.

A big fee for Greenwood, rather than a player exchange, would see the club inherit a lump sum that would count as 'pure profit' due to Greenwood coming through the academy.

Obviously, an extra £30m in the bank would be more appreciated than £15m and Chiesa, financially. However, the Italy international does offer a proven threat and if Juve did offer him, there's enough reason to consider accepting the swap.
